Nollywood Stakeholders Endorse Circuits

In a defining moment for African storytelling, Circuits, a new pay-per-view streaming platform, officially launched with the screening of ‘Asiri Ade.’ Translating to “The Secret of the Crown,” this Yoruba epic not only captivated audiences but also underscored the platform’s commitment to celebrating African culture on a global stage. The star-studded premiere event was a celebration of innovation, culture, and the limitless potential of African cinema.

Circuits aims to revolutionise how African films and series reach audiences worldwide. By embracing a transactional video-on-demand (TVOD) model, the platform offers viewers the flexibility to pay for content they choose to watch, breaking away from traditional subscription-based systems. Vice President of Content, Chioma Onyenwe, shared the vision: “We’re creating a platform that prioritises quality, accessibility, and cultural representation. Our goal is to ensure African stories are seen and celebrated globally.”

Key features include global accessibility, multi-language subtitles in French and Portuguese, and robust content protection through advanced digital rights management. This ensures both inclusivity for international audiences and security for filmmakers. “We’re building trust with our creators and audience alike,” Onyenwe emphasised.

Asiri Ade’: A Cultural Triumph

Directed by Adeoluwa Owu, ‘Asiri Ade’ is a cinematic masterpiece rooted in Yoruba heritage. The film’s journey from concept to screen was a meticulous process, involving six months of script development and extensive set design across Lagos and Oyo. “This film is a piece of my heart,” Owu shared passionately. “It’s a love letter to our culture, blending folklore with universal themes of resilience and identity.”

Owu’s dedication to authenticity shines through in every detail, from the vibrant costumes to the immersive soundscapes. “‘Asiri Ade’ encapsulates the essence of Yoruba tradition while delivering a story that resonates universally,” he said, reflecting on the significance of preserving cultural narratives.

Empowering African Filmmakers

Circuits’ launch marks a turning point for African filmmakers, offering a much-needed alternative to limited cinema releases and traditional streaming platforms. By introducing a TVOD model, it empowers creators to reach audiences without the constraints of geography or exclusivity agreements.

The platform’s unique royalty system ensures fair compensation for all involved in the production process, setting a new industry benchmark. “This isn’t just a platform; it’s a movement,”” said Ladun Awobokun, FilmOne Entertainment’s chief content officer. “It’s a bold step towards creating a sustainable ecosystem for African cinema.”

Circuits has set ambitious goals, including reaching one million streams within its first three months. The platform’s lineup of upcoming releases features ‘Ruthless’, a groundbreaking mixed martial arts drama, and ‘The Weekend’, a poignant exploration of societal themes. With a strategic focus on digital marketing and audience engagement, Circuits is positioning itself as a leader in the African entertainment space.

For producers, the platform’s commitment to content protection and global distribution is a game-changer. “Circuits is the partner we’ve been waiting for,” said Ope Ajayi, a producer. “It’s an opportunity to showcase our work to the world without compromise.”

With its innovative approach and dedication to authenticity, Circuits represents a new dawn—one where their stories take centre stage on the world’s screen.
