‘The Benefactor:’ Bimbo Ademoye, Kunle Remi to Lead Adeoluwa Owu’s Family Drama

Degzy Films, in collaboration with ReelHouse Productions and Wolf Trybe Media, has announced their latest project, ‘The Benefactor,’ starring Bimbo Ademoye and Kunle Remi. Adeoluwa Owu, ‘A Tribe Called Judah’ co-director and Nollywire’s director to watch in 2024, has been attached to helm the direction of the new family drama.

Although plot details about ‘The Benefactor’ have not been disclosed, Owu describes the story about the life of a young girl named Tuntunlade as “a story about fear and finding solace.”

Owu is set to direct a story written by Temilolu Fosudo, with the original story by Folakemi Bello. Owu and Fosudo previously collaborated as director-writer on their 2021 Netflix hit drama ‘The Griot.’ Originally released on the streaming platform on November 9, 2021, ‘The Griot’ soared to become one of the top 10 most-viewed Nollywood films on Netflix in 2022.

The director shared exclusively with Nollywire, saying, “I’m so proud of the work we did to add authenticity and depth to this story. Bimbo plays the role of a music artist, and we made original songs for her to perform.”

Toluwani George, Akin Lewis, Folakemi Bello, Bimbo Manuel, Aisha Lawal, and Tobi Makinde complete the list of other notable actors starring in the drama.

Owu, a renowned figure in Nollywood, joins Folakemi Bello as a producer on this project. The film is currently in production, with a release date yet to be announced. Owu is also known for his work with top cinematographer Wale Adebayo, who is handling the visual storytelling for “The Benefactor.”

Owu has been a significant presence in Nollywood. Over the years, he has worked as director and cinematographer on numerous acclaimed films and television series, including ‘A Tribe Called Judah,’ ‘Far from Home,’ ‘Jagun Jagun,’ ‘Adire,’ and ‘The Griot,’ which won the Oronto Douglas Award for Best Nigerian Film at the African International Film Festival (AFRIFF) in 2021.

His previous works also include the popular TV film ‘Ex With Benefits,’ where he first directed both Ademoye and Remi. He looks to continue to showcase his exceptional skills and passion for filmmaking with this family drama.

Owu’s talent has not gone unnoticed; he has garnered several accolades and awards throughout his career. His dedication to storytelling and his ability to bring characters to life on screen have made him a respected figure in the industry.

‘The Benefactor’ has been in development for a year and a half, with the collaboration between Degzy Films, ReelHouse Productions, and Wolf Trybe Media marking an important milestone. ReelHouse is making its debut in feature films, while Wolf Trybe Media continues its mission to tell compelling African stories to both local and global audiences.

Stay tuned for more updates on the release plans and prepare to witness the artistry of some of Nollywood’s finest talents.
