First Look at ‘The Benefactor’ Poster: Bimbo Ademoye, Kunle Remi Star in Adeoluwa Owu’s Psychological Drama

In ‘The Benefactor’, silence is ritual, complicity is currency, and truth comes at a cost. Directed by Adeoluwa Owu, the psychological drama follows a rising musician whose past resurfaces in the form of a man once seen as her saviour.

The film opens in Nigerian cinemas August 8, with Bimbo Ademoye, Kunle Remi, and Akin Lewis leading the ensemble. It marks a bold departure for Owu from the comedic chaos of ‘Owambe Thieves’. This time, he trades heists and humour for confrontation and control — and confronts the systems that protect predators.

The drama centres on Tuntunlade, played by Ademoye, a breakout star on the cusp of fame. But when a man who once helped launch her career makes an impossible demand of her and she refuses to play along, a broader web of complicity begins to unravel.

Temilolu Fosudo scripted the story from Folakemi Bello, who also co-produced the movie with Owu. “The film isn’t just about one person’s trauma,” Owu tells Nollywire. “It’s about how silence is protected, how power is disguised, and the price people pay for speaking.”

In the official poster that was unveiled today, Ademoye stands front and centre in an elaborate orange dress, flanked by Kunle Remi, Bimbo Manuel, Tobi Makinde, Aisha Lawal, and Toluwani George. Akin Lewis looms above them in a portrait that feels more like surveillance than symbolism — a shadow over the entire story.

The film is Owu’s first theatrical release under his production company, Degzy Films, and a major step in his growing slate of emotionally driven character dramas. It is co-produced by Reelhouse Productions and Wolf Trybe Media, with distribution by Cinemax.

‘The Benefactor’ arrives on the heels of Owu’s 2025 cinema hit ‘Owambe Thieves’, which featured stars like Eniola Ajao, Sola Sobowale, Zubby Michael, and Wumi Toriola. The film was among the top-grossing titles for the first half of the year, further establishing Owu as one of the industry’s dynamic new voices.

His upcoming projects include ‘The Griot 2’, a follow-up to his Netflix-acquired breakout hit, and ‘Omo Boy’, a coming-of-age drama also written by Temilolu Fosudo.

‘The Benefactor’ opens in cinemas nationwide on August 8.
