When we think about movies, most times our minds never graze the people off camera—the team behind the scenes. We are mostly concerned with the actors and directors because they are the ones we see. However, there are people off camera who make the actors shine, a formidable crew that brings the director’s vision to life.
At Nollywire, we discovered that there are not many conversations centred on the persons who build the actors’ physical environments from the ground up, persons who cultivate their wardrobes to reflect their characterisation, persons whose shots enhance the overall look and feel of the film. To fill this gap, we decided to introduce Off Camera.
Off Camera is a column that dives into the lives of the people we rarely see on camera but without their input, there will be nothing on camera. From cinematographers to editors, Off Camera aims to shine a light on every single person behind the scene. This biweekly column will bring to your doorsteps stories of the unsung heroes in film.
For our inaugural column, we sit with Barnabas ‘Barny’ Emordi, whose work spans across genres; from the glitz and glam of ‘Superstar’ to the grit and guts of ‘Lisabi’, Emordi has done it all. In this interview, he talks about his decade-old career, his process, and his voyage in Nollywood.
