Following the box office success of ‘Wives on Strike’ (2016) and ‘Wives on Strike: The Revolution’ (2017), Omoni Oboli, the actor-producer turned director, announced that production for the second sequel had begun in April 2022.
Although initial excitement from cinephiles and fans of the popular movie series expected the movie’s release in late 2022 or early 2023, Oboli has just announced that the movie will be released exclusively in cinemas in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2024 in an exciting Instagram post today.
The movie series follows four women who denied their husbands sexual intimacy as a form of protest against domestic violence, sparking both humour and critical conversation around important social issues.
While sharing this exciting news, Oboli said, “It’s the best one we have done so far! The uprising will bring back the charm, humour and a more interesting plot.”
“Expect to see your favourite characters in new, unexpected situations that will leave you in a rollercoaster of emotions. The journey we’ve taken to create this film has been nothing short of incredible, and we can’t wait to share it with you.”
Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori as a new cast addition
‘The Uprising: Wives on Stike 3’ features a talented cast, including Chioma Chukwuka Akpotha, Uche Jombo, Omoni Oboli, and Ufuoma McDermott reprising their roles.
However, a twist hinted in the announcement video revealed that there are new additions to the refreshed cast, including veteran actress Hilda Dokubo and Bukunmi ‘Kiekie’ Adeaga-Ilori. Based on BTS videos obtained by Nollywire, Dokubo will portray the role of a woman named Ebiere, and Adeaga-Ilori will replace Toyin Abraham as Iya Bola.
Originally listed as one of Nollywire’s most-anticipated 2024 titles, a date for the film’s premiere is yet to be disclosed, but special screenings and events are planned to celebrate the film’s release, with details to follow soon.
