The 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award (AMVCA) has officially opened its submission window. The application is expected to run from January 11 through February 15 2026. The organisers revealed that the upcoming edition will be headlined by Don Julio as its lead sponsor, describing the partnership as part of the awards’ evolution into a premium cultural platform that celebrates African creativity and craftsmanship.
Entries for the AMVCA cut across film, television and digital content across Africa. This year, the awards feature 32 categories in this 12th edition, with 18 being jury-decided, while 11 will be audience-voted. The awards will once again present their headline honours, including the Trailblazer Award, along with two Special Recognition Awards for lifelong achievement.
The award organisers made key additions to the category lineup this year: Best Indigenous Language—North Africa and Best Indigenous Language—Central Africa. These new additions are a step in the right direction towards greater inclusion, as the award lineup has previously recognised works from East Africa, West Africa, and South Africa.
Works produced, broadcast, or publicly exhibited between January 1 and December 31, 2025, are eligible for an AMVCA submission. To be considered, feature-length films must have been screened in cinemas, aired on broadcast television, or released on streaming platforms. Filmmakers and creators are required to submit full preview copies of the eligible titles exactly as screened or broadcast and complete the online entry process through the designated submission portal.
Presented by MultiChoice, a subsidiary of Canal+, the AMVCAs honour outstanding achievements in television, film, and digital storytelling across Nollywood and the wider African creative landscape. The 12th edition of the awards is slated to be held in Lagos, Nigeria, in May 2026, with additional information to be unveiled in the coming months.
