The highly anticipated action drama ‘Son of the Soil’ has officially shifted its cinema release date from October 31 to November 21, 2025. According to Nile Media Entertainment Group, the decision was informed by the movie’s official selection for the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), where it is expected to feature alongside other films in the event’s closing ceremony.
The team explained that aligning the release with AFRIFF would allow them to plan a premiere experience that complements the festival’s international exposure and growing recognition of the project. ‘Son of the Soil’ tells the story of a haunted Nigerian ex-commando who is drawn back into a world of violence after the death of his sister leads him to uncover a murderous drug network tearing his community apart. His mission is simple: justice.

Speaking on the development, Film Business and Data strategist at Nile Media Entertainment Group, Aondofa Shija, noted that the new date aligns with the film’s expanding global recognition. “Once we got confirmation that it had been selected for AFRIFF, we thought it wise to move the release. We wanted to tie the premiere closely to the event and build on the attention the film has been receiving globally,” Aondofa said.
Following a strong festival run and increasing international recognition, ‘Son of the Soil’ has only deepened anticipation within the African film community, prompting the recent change in release date. The film was lauded at the BlackStar International Film Festival and has also secured a UK government-backed premiere, indicating a growing interest in African action storytelling and the cross-cultural partnerships driving the project.
Described by critics as a significant booster for African action cinema, ‘Son of the Soil’ is celebrated for its technical precision, strong performances, and high production value. Shot in Nigeria, ‘Son of the Soil’ was directed by a UK-based filmmaker, Chee Keong Cheung, with post-production handled in the United Kingdom, a collaboration the distribution team believes will set a new standard for African filmmaking. “The technical quality really stands out,” Aondofa shared. “From the visuals to the sound design and the cast, everything has been carefully crafted to deliver a world-class cinematic experience.”

With the new release date set for November 21, ‘Son of the Soil’ is poised to continue its remarkable journey across festivals and cinemas, building on the momentum of its global recognition and technical acclaim. Nile Media Entertainment Group expressed confidence that the date shift would amplify its visibility and ensure it reaches the widest possible audience. Audiences across Africa and beyond can look forward to an unforgettable cinematic experience when ‘Son of the Soil’ finally hits theatres on November 21, 2025.
