It’s interesting, captivating, fascinating and more. I cannot wait to see the season 2.
So lovely to watch
So, I just watched the first episode of “Beyond the Veil”… I am happy.
Let me talk just a little as a professional, and as a regular film lover.
One of the first things that caught my attention was the introduction of the characters and the way that Nadine lets us into their worlds; I enjoyed that very much… the fact the characters are hinted at before they emerge on screen helps to arm the viewer with a a knowledge of who they are and what they do from their emergence on screen. It’s nice.Show more
Next, is the production value. I’m happy because the production value does in fact match the type of story being told. That is a good thing. It’s not too much and it is certainly not too little. Way to go.
In the first episode, the goals of the characters were established and some of the obstacles they would entually face are also hinted at… that’s a great thing to do early on in a show… I don’t think a whole episode was needed to do that… but still, it is good that it was done at all.
Though the characters were nicely introduced, I did not see a clearly defined leading protagonist. Something to look into?
Now, I understand that the story is set in the North, it seems like it will tell a northern story, but I’m yet to understand what it is really about… I thought that will be clarified from the first episode. I’m not too worried about that, I have faith that by the end of episode 2 all will be clarified.
About casting, I helps to see beautiful people on screen. Nadine did a good job in giving us “eye candy”. Thanks for that. I will spare us the detailed review of the character looks in relation to one another… I’ll say it is pretty good.
I have enjoyed the acting performances so far. I’m happy that we have not encountered cases of the over-acting which usually plagues Nigerian screen productions. The performances seem realistic and acceptable so far. Yes, one may spot a few irregularities here and there, but it’s okay since the show is just starting… we expect it to become more solid as the episodes roll by.
The fact that I do not know most of the actors has impressed me the most! (Yes, I put an exclamation point there). To present such a quality production with many faces that are not yet popular (yes, ‘not yet’ cos they sure will become popular) is almost a bit of a risk, most will think, but not I. Well done. Keep giving people chances to prove their worth.
I will resist the temptation to enter into technicalities of design in cinematography, sound and the production… I will resist the temptation because many of such things in productions are a matter of personal opinion and preference… so I will not presume my perspective and preference is more acceptable than Nadine’s. Since the basic rules were observed, I’ll skip.
What I hope to see: 1). The characters mature along the lines of their various arcs and present a captivating story overall.
2). I also hope to see clear antagonist goals and not just antagonists for antagonist sake – that will be boring.
3). I hope to see a clear protagonist emerge… everyone cannot be protagonists of equal standing; that will divide the attention of the viewer and cause a loss of interest.
On the overall, I think we are off to a good start and this could go really well.
I sure will be linking up with Nadine Ibrahim on LinkedIn. She seems professional, and I like!
