Owambe Thieves Show E03: Sola Sobawale and Fathia Balogun Share Their Number 1 Marriage Advice

‘Owambe Thieves’ is bringing comedy and culture to cinemas on April 18. The film stars legendary actresses Sola Sobowale and Fathia Balogun, reuniting on screen in a lively and entertaining story.

Following Denrele Edun’s conversations on love, sex, money, and marriage with Wumi Toriola and Akin Lewis in the first episode and in the second episode with Tope Olowoniyan and Tolani Baj, in this third episode of the Owambe Thieves Show, Chimezie Imo quizzes the two veteran stars about their roles, what makes this film special, and what they believe is the ultimate marriage advice.

Directed by Adeoluwa Owu and produced by Barbara Babarinsa and Eniola Ajao, ‘Owambe Thieves’ is a comedy that assembles Eniola Ajao and Zubby Michael. The movie features appearances from Juju music maestro Sir Shina Peters, internet sensation Abike Raheem, popularly known as Papaya Ex, and Tolani Baj, who are joined by Phyna Otabor, Mo Bimpe Adedimeji, and Sexy Steel.

Discussing how they first got involved with Owambe Thieves, both Sola Sobowale and Fathia Balogun recalled the excitement of receiving the call to join the production. Sobowale, known for her commanding presence in Nollywood, spoke about how she was instantly drawn to the project, especially given its rich cultural themes and the talented ensemble cast. Balogun, on the other hand, highlighted the script’s depth and the credibility of the filmmaker, praising their storytelling prowess. “When I saw the name on the script, I knew it would be something special,” she said.

One of the standout elements of ‘Owambe Thieves’ is how it seamlessly blends Nigeria’s ethnic diversity. The film incorporates multiple languages, with characters representing various tribes, from Yoruba to Igbo and beyond. The actresses expressed their appreciation for the film’s inclusivity, noting that it reflects the reality of Nigerian society. “We speak English; we speak our native tongues, and that’s what makes it beautiful,” Sobowale stated.

Both actresses have been industry stalwarts for decades, navigating its ever-changing landscape. When asked about the most valuable lesson they have learnt, Balogun emphasised the importance of togetherness. “This job brings people together. I have gained a big family through Nollywood, and that’s something I will never forget,” she shared. Sobowale echoed the sentiment, adding that humility and loyalty are crucial in sustaining a long and successful career.

Beyond entertainment, ‘Owambe Thieves’ carries deep messages about relationships and family. When discussing the film’s theme of marriage, the actresses shared their thoughts on what makes a union work. Sobowale stressed that putting God first, being transparent, and respecting one’s spouse are essential. “A woman must respect her husband. That doesn’t mean she should become a slave, but she should recognise that the man is the head of the house,” she advised. Balogun added that mutual understanding is key, saying, “If both partners understand each other, the marriage will thrive.”

As Owambe Thieves prepares to grace cinema screens, Sobowale and Balogun urge audiences to gather their friends, family, and even foes to experience the magic of the film. “From April 18, go to every cinema in Nigeria and watch ‘Owambe Thieves’!” they cheered in unison.
