Nollywood’s foremost film distribution company, FilmOne Entertainment, has announced a new deal to bring four Nollywood titles to movie lovers at 30,000 ft.
Meanwhile, FilmOne has proved yet again their commitment to bring Nollywood stories to the global audience following their announcement of a new distribution deal in the airline market.
This is coming after FilmOne spearheaded the recovery of the Nigerian box office in 2021. The company coproduced and distributed titles that accounted for 35% and 76% of the 2020/2021 box office revenue respectively.
Although not common practice for Nollywood distributors, FilmOne is tapping into the airline ancillary film distribution market to bolster revenue with this new deal.
From April 1, 2022, “Introducing The Kujus” (2020), “Mamba’s Diamond” (2021), “Soólè” (2021) and “Aki and Pawpaw” (2021) will be available to travellers to watch while flying.
Therefore, passengers will be able to watch “Introducing The Kujus” aboard Saudia and KLM Airlines. “Mamba’s Diamond” will be available on United Airlines, and “Aki and Pawpaw” and “Soólè” while flying Virgin Atlantic.
Remember that Mimi Bartels, FilmOne’s Head of Production, spoke on their plans for 2022 at the beginning of the year. She said, “Our focus in 2022 is to produce authentic local content for global consumption, which would be key in positioning Nollywood as the solid source for stories that make a cross-cultural impact”.
We look forward to what more is in store for Nollywood the rest of 2022.
