Tomike Adeoye’s First Impression of Mike Afolarin on ‘Ajosepo’ Set

When Nigerian actress Tomike Adeoye first encountered Mike Afolarin on the set of Kayode Kasum’s ‘Ajosepo’ to shoot the film’s pivotal marriage proposal scene, she was brimming with questions.

Those questions soon morphed into scepticism as she sized up Afolarin’s appearance, initially pegging him as too youthful for the role. “Why should this young man be the one to propose to me in the film?” she pondered aloud.

It was an odd and awkward moment for the actors, yet remarkably, it catalysed a burgeoning rapport between them. This initial awkwardness paradoxically aided the actors in settling into their respective characters and eliciting authentic performances.

In a frank exchange between the leads, they delved into their perceptions of marital discord, navigating troublesome in-laws, and the quest for an ideal life partner. Their conversation seamlessly dovetails with the intricate themes explored in ‘Ajosepo.’

Portraying the central characters—Adeoye as Tani and Afolarin as Dapo—necessitated the cultivation of a strong bond between the actors. In the narrative, Tani and Dapo are enamoured young lovers who, despite familial chaos, are determined to unite in matrimony. As their families converge at an opulent hotel, festivities quickly unravel into turmoil as buried secrets, familial tensions, and unforeseen revelations threaten to rupture their bonds.

Written by Stephen Okonkwo based on a story by Dare Olaitan and helmed by Kayode Kasum, the film imparts poignant lessons on family dynamics, love, and interpersonal relationships.

Boasting a stellar ensemble cast, ‘Ajosepo’ features Ronke Oshodi, Yemi Sholade, Mike Afolarin, Tomike Adeoye, Timini Egbuson, Kanaga Jnr, Bisola Aiyeola, and Deyemi Okanlawon in pivotal roles.

With the premiere set for April 10, Adeoye urges viewers, “Family members, ‘Ajosepo’ is in cinemas, so make sure you go see it. It’s the best thing you are going to watch this year, 2024.”
