Tobi Bakre Stars in ‘Farmer’s Bride’: FilmOne Studios’ Latest Original Production

Tobi Bakre is set to grace the screens again in FilmOne Studio’s eagerly awaited second original production, “Farmer’s Bride,” helmed by directors Adebayo Tijani and Jack’enneth Opukeme.

Following his successful transition into Nollywood, Bakre quickly established himself as a force to be reckoned with in action-packed blockbusters like ‘Brotherhood,’ ‘Gangs of Lagos,’ and the recent hit series ‘Slum King.’ Garnering accolades such as the Actor of the Year Award at the 9th African Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) for his role in ‘Brotherhood,’ Bakre has become synonymous with riveting action performances.

In a departure from his usual genre, “Farmer’s Bride” sees Bakre tackling a new challenge. Set against the backdrop of 1980s Ibadan, this period thriller unfolds the story of Odun (portrayed by Femi Branch), a wealthy yet isolated farmer who finds solace in Funmi (played by Gbubemi Ejeye), a young woman from a neighboring village.

However, Odun’s newfound happiness takes a dark turn when his nephew Femi (portrayed by Tobi Bakre) and Funmi conspire to eliminate him following an unexpected twist in their relationship. Their nefarious plot succeeds, but they soon find themselves haunted by the vengeful spirit of the farmer, setting off a chain of events that will test their resolve.

“Farmer’s Bride” marks FilmOne’s second foray into original productions following the success of ‘Adire,’ directed by Adeoluwa Owu. While FilmOne has made a name for itself through distribution and co-productions, ‘Adire’ signalled the dawn of FilmOne Studios, the company’s in-house production arm dedicated to creating fresh and innovative content.

Bakre leads the cast with direction by Tijani and Opukeme, known for their work on ‘Jagun Jagun’ and ‘Adire,’ respectively.

Joining Bakre in the cast are Gbubemi Ejeye and Efe Irele, both of whom have earned praise for their roles in period dramas. Against the backdrop of a burgeoning trend in Nollywood for historical and cultural narratives, “Farmer’s Bride” adds depth to the cinematic landscape.

With a talented ensemble cast including Tobi Bakre, Gbubemi Ejeye, Efe Irele, Femi Branch, Mercy Aigbe and Wunmi Toriola, “Farmer’s Bride” recently wrapped production in Ibadan and is now gearing up to make waves in cinemas later this year.
