‘To Adaego with Love’, a romantic drama set against the backdrop of post-war Nigeria, is set to open in cinemas nationwide on February 6, 2026.
The film was recognised at the 2025 AFRIFF Globe Awards, winning Best Feature Film and Best Screenplay.
Set in 1975, the film follows the relationship between a soldier and a schoolteacher from different ethnic backgrounds who fall in love in a society still grappling with the aftermath of conflict. Their relationship is shaped and strained by tradition, family expectations, and lingering divisions in a country attempting to rebuild.
Producer and screenwriter Brenda Ogbukaa-Garuba describes the film as a story about personal choices rather than political commentary. “This film is about ordinary people choosing love at a time when the country was still healing,” she says. “It is not about politics but about forgiveness, fragile hope, and the quiet strength it takes to move forward in a broken world.”
The film stars Chisom Agoawuike and Adam Garba in the lead roles, with supporting performances from Chioma Chukwuka, Bob-Manuel Udokwu, Riyo David, Demi Banwo, Tonia Chukwurah, and Six Foot Plus. The cast also includes a final screen appearance by the late Onyeka Onwenu.
Reflecting on Onwenu’s involvement, Ogbukaa-Garuba says the project holds particular significance for the team. “She brought truth, grace, and strength to every moment,” she notes. “This film is our way of honouring her legacy and sharing a story we hope stays with audiences long after the cinema lights come up.”
‘To Adaego with Love’ is directed by Nwamaka Chikezie and executive produced by Tony B. Adesina. The film blends intimate character-driven storytelling with period detail, situating its romance within a specific historical moment.
The film, co-produced by Lorenzo Menakaya, is produced by Tade Production in collaboration with Ziva Works and distributed by Tribe Nation, with Trino Motion Pictures serving as sales representative.
