After a theatrical run, festival circuit stops, and a series of industry deals that shaped its release strategy, ‘Son of the Soil’ will begin streaming on Netflix across Africa from March 1.
Directed by Chee Keong Cheung, the action thriller follows Zion Ladejo, a former special operations paratrooper who returns home after personal loss and becomes entangled in a confrontation with criminal networks.
The streaming debut marks the latest phase in a staggered rollout Nollywire has tracked over the past year, from Nile Entertainment’s acquisition of African rights ahead of its domestic cinema run to its U.S. theatrical release.
Led by Razaaq Adoti, who previously described the project to Nollywire as a personal homecoming, the cast includes Taye Arimoro, Sunshine Rosman, Patience Ozokwo, Ireti Doyle, Damilola Ogunsi, Philip Asaya, Emeka Golden and Sharon Rotimi, alongside child actor Ijelu Folajimi.
The film was produced by Action Xtreme and Sovereign in association with Lagos-based Boxonia Blueprint. It also forms part of a first-look collaboration between Action Xtreme and Nile Entertainment, a partnership Nollywire previously reported when the deal was announced.
The Netflix launch completes a multi-market release cycle that has included theatrical exhibition, festival recognition and awards momentum.
‘Son of the Soil’ screened at the Pan African Film Festival and won multiple awards at the Black Star International Film Festival, in addition to nominations at the Best of Nollywood Awards.
Its release path aligns with Nile’s broader distribution expansion. Moses Babatope-led Nile Group, the parent company of Nile Entertainment, has emphasised strengthening theatrical exhibition while building platform partnerships. Recent cinema infrastructure deals, including Nile’s partnership with Viva Cinemas, reflect that strategy.
With its continental streaming rollout, ‘Son of the Soil’ now completes a distribution arc that has moved from cinema screens to platform access across Africa.
The film begins streaming on Netflix from March 1.
