The wait is over. Nollywire has the exclusive first look at Son of the Soil’s official trailer, released three hours ahead of any other platform, offering audiences a thrilling glimpse into what is already being called Nollywood’s most ambitious action film yet.
Directed by award-winning British-Chinese filmmaker Chee Keong Cheung (Redcon-1), ‘Son of the Soil’ features a powerhouse cast led by Razaaq Adoti (Black Hawk Down, Amistad) alongside Ireti Doyle, Patience Ozokwor, Damilola Ogunsi, Taye Arimoro, Sunshine Rosman, Philip Asaya, Toyin Oshinaike, Durotimi Okutagidi and Sharon Rotimi, who shared behind-the-scenes moments from the set. The film promises explosive set pieces, gripping drama, and an unapologetically Nigerian heart.
Set entirely in Nigeria, the story follows Zion Ladejo (Adoti) on a relentless quest for justice after discovering his sister’s death at the hands of a ruthless cartel protected by corrupt officials. What begins as a personal mission escalates into an all-out war that will test his strength, resolve, and soul.
Produced by Andreas Roald (Triangle of Sadness), Razaaq Adoti, Chee Keong Cheung, Ioanna Karavela (Bad Day at the Office), and Wingonia Ikpi through her company Boxonia Blueprint, with a screenplay also written by Adoti, ‘Son of the Soil’ is the flagship title from the first-look partnership between Nile Entertainment and Action Xtreme.
The collaboration will co-produce and distribute a slate of action films and series across Africa, positioning Nollywood as a global player in the action genre.
The deal, which was first reported by Variety, also creates opportunities for African talent and crew to work on world-class productions while amplifying authentic stories for international audiences.
Nile Entertainment, which picked up African rights to ‘Son of the Soil’ earlier this year, is the Nigerian distribution company launched last year by veteran film executive Moses Babatope.
Cheung is also the CEO of Action Xtreme alongside Andreas Roald, a studio supported by Sovereign Media Capital. The company is dedicated to building grassroots talent and producing bold, action-driven stories for international markets.
Through the deal with Nile Entertainment, Action Xtreme hopes to create a long-term pipeline of projects that showcase Nollywood’s potential on a world stage.
Moses Babatope, Group CEO of Nile Entertainment, described the partnership as transformative:
“This deal is bigger than one project. It’s about building a bridge that allows Nigerian stories to travel across borders. By combining Nollywood’s strong storytelling with Action Xtreme’s experience in action filmmaking, we are opening the door to a new level of recognition. It reflects our vision to transform the industry through meaningful collaborations that attract global audiences.”
For Chee Keong Cheung, directing in Nigeria was a revelation:
“This was my first time in Nigeria, and it was an amazing experience. With Son of the Soil, I wanted to tell a story that is deeply Nigerian but universally resonant. Working with Nollywood’s incredible cast and crew opened my eyes to the talent and energy here. This partnership with Nile Entertainment is just the beginning, and I believe it will help Nigerian films connect with audiences worldwide.”
Action Xtreme is also investing in grassroots talent-building, bringing its expertise in stunt training, action choreography, and production craft directly to Nigeria.
The studio, known for launching the world’s first MA in Action Filmmaking with Falmouth University, has delivered masterclasses at the BFI and international festivals and now plans to expand those initiatives across Africa.
Cheung’s previous film, ‘Redcon-1’, was theatrically released in the UK, Japan, Taiwan, and Mexico before landing on Showtime in the US and Netflix globally. His upcoming slate includes ‘The Experiment’, starring Rhona Mitra (Doomsday) and Famke Janssen (Taken), and ‘Bad Day at the Office’ with John Hannah (The Mummy) and Radha Mitchell (Man on Fire), both slated for release in 2026.
Wingonia Ikpi, producer and founder of Boxonia Blueprint, called ‘Son of the Soil’ “a film like never before… a blueprint for a new era of Nigerian action cinema.”
With Nile Entertainment and Action Xtreme now aligned under this first-look deal, ‘Son of the Soil’ is the launchpad for a long-term strategy to deliver African stories with international quality, elevate Nollywood on the global stage, and create new pathways for emerging talent.
‘Son of the Soil’ storms into Nigerian cinemas on October 31, 2025, followed by international festival and streaming runs, marking a bold new chapter in Nollywood’s action cinema journey.
