Kenyan director Vincho Nchogu’s debut feature ‘One Woman One Bra’ will have its world premiere at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, screening in the Biennale College Cinema strand — a platform renowned for spotlighting distinctive new voices in world cinema.
The film follows Star, a 38-year-old unmarried woman living in the village of Sayit, where residents are about to receive land titles distributed along kinship lines. With no known parentage, Star faces the prospect of losing her home. Her only hope lies in a mysterious childhood photograph that may hold the key to securing her place in the community.

Described by the festival as “a centuries-old tradition opening the doors to a secret world”, ‘One Woman One Bra’ reflects on belonging, identity, and the personal cost of inheritance systems.
Produced by Josh Olaoluwa, whose recent work includes ‘Baptism’ and ‘Deep Dish Dimples’, the film marks a continuation of his collaborations with Vincho Nchogu. The pair previously partnered on ‘Fantastic Tale’, which was selected for development at the Red Sea Lodge in 2023.
‘One Woman One Bra’ was developed under Biennale College Cinema, the programme which has built a reputation for nurturing distinctive international filmmakers and providing them with the platform of Venice, one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious film festivals.
‘One Woman One Bra’ will premiere for press and industry on August 30 at Sala Giardino, followed by an official public screening later that day. Additional screenings are scheduled for August 31 at Sala Astra 1.
With its Venice debut, the film positions Nchogu as a filmmaker to watch and continues Olaoluwa’s growing track record of producing projects that travel on the international circuit.
