The 28th edition of the Panafrican Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO) opened on the 25th of February 2023 at the conference room of the Pacific Hotel in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso and Kunle Afolayan, the founder/CEO of KAP Motion/Golden Effect Pictures hosted a reception/party for the attending film makers in celebration of African cinema.
FESPACO provides a platform for numerous professionals in African cinema and various other countries around the world, including Nigeria, France, England, Belgium, Cameroon, South Africa, Mali, Morocco, Senegal, and Burkina Faso, to come together.
100 movies from 35 African countries and the diaspora, were shortlisted to compete across 11 categories, including short film, documentaries, TV series and animation.
Nearly half of those in the fiction competition this year are directed by women.
FESPACO is a biennial event that aims to examine the past and future significance in the development of the African film and audiovisual industries.
It was a cocktail of culture and creatives and was well attended by dignitaries and filmmakers from all over the world.
The event was put together to celebrate, host and honor African filmmakers and their various journeys in the entertainment industry.
Kunle Afolayan stated that a lot of opportunities are missed because people don’t see what is in their faces. He encouraged more cross country collaborations with other filmmakers as he did with his award winning movie “Citation”
