Kava, the streaming platform backed by Kene Okwuosa-led Filmhouse Group and Inkblot Productions CEO Chinaza Onuzo, officially launched today, August 21, with the service now live via a web-first release on kava.tv, ahead of its planned mobile and smart TV app expansion.
Kava first introduced the platform at a launch event in Lagos on July 24, 2025, unveiling its strategy and vision. With today’s activation, viewers in Nigeria and the diaspora can begin streaming on the platform.
Subscribers can stream over 30 Nollywood titles, including theatrical releases and exclusive originals, with new films and series added weekly. To mark its debut, Kava will stream select titles for free during the first 24 hours, giving audiences a chance to sample its catalogue.
By starting with a browser-based rollout, Kava is offering immediate access while preparing for a broader app-driven expansion. With more than 17 million Nigerians living abroad, the streaming platform is focused on diaspora audiences, who remain some of Nollywood’s most consistent consumers.
Industry insiders see the platform’s debut as part of a broader solution to Nollywood’s long-standing distribution challenges. Folajimi Alli-Balogun, Assistant Vice President of Investments at MBO Capital, recently noted that “distribution has long been a pain point in the industry,” and that Kava “will go a long way towards solving that problem.”
This launch also embodies Okwuosa and Onuzo’s decade-long vision. and reflects Inkblot and Filmhouse’s ambition to build an African cinematic ecosystem; one that preserves archival titles, supports emerging filmmakers, and offers post-theatrical life to content.
