Christmas is all about good food, family time, and Christmas movies. Many Nigerians also look forward to the festive seasons for the Christmas movies.
Many directors are known for their popular Christmas movies. ‘Christmas in Lagos’, directed by Jade Osiberu; ‘A Naija Christmas’, directed by Kunle Afolayan; ‘A Danfo Christmas’, directed by Sebastian Ukwa.
We asked Nollyphiles to imagine having a hundred million naira as a producer for a Christmas movie of their choice. From age-gap romance to second-chance romance, small-town romance, and corporate romance.
A Single Father – Carer Romance — Nnamdi Kanaga
Nnamdi Kanaga conceived a Christmas story where love blooms in the quiet, everyday corners of life. He would hand the director’s chair to Kemi Adetiba and cast Osas Ighodaro, Wale Ojo, Eme Kanaga, and Ruby Akubueze.
In his film, a widowed father battling a terminal illness longs to find love again before Christmas. His two children, desperate to see him happy, try to set him up several times—until they realise his young carer has loved him all along. Their silent affection finally surfaces, and the man spends his last Christmas surrounded by family, slipping away peacefully after dinner.
Christmas and Us — Alalade Otitooluwa
Alalade Otitooluwa envisioned a heartfelt family drama directed by Kunle Afolayan, starring Osas Ighodaro, Adeoluwa Akintoba and Bambam Adebuniyan.
The story follows three siblings: the eldest, an overworked introvert determined to finally experience “Detty December”; the second, a single mother who lost both her soldier husband and their mother on Christmas Day; and the youngest, a lively student secretly battling illness. Their paths intertwine around love, loss, and the rediscovery of joy in family during the holidays.
Christmas in the Compound — Nighty
Nighty dreamed up a lively rom-com and would choose Kemi Adetiba to direct, curious to see her take on the genre. Toyin Abraham would star as a meddlesome landlady who can’t resist poking her nose into everyone’s business, with Uzor Arukwe as the charming, wealthy bachelor next door.
Adesua Etomi and Sharon Rotimi play two sisters still grieving their father, who passed away on Christmas Day three years earlier. While the younger sister is ready to move on, the elder—now the family’s breadwinner—refuses to celebrate. When a chance encounter brings the Christmas-loving Uzor into their lives, Nighty asks: can love change how this family sees the season?
The Lighthouse Christmas — Leronzo Menakaya
Leronzo Menakaya crafted a nostalgic holiday romance and would entrust Jade Osiberu to direct, featuring Osas Ighodaro, Wale Ojo, and Kagana Junior.
The story follows Amara, a city architect forced to return home when her father falls ill. There, she discovers the town’s beloved lighthouse—once lit every Christmas Eve—has gone dark. With the help of Daniel, a humble local carpenter, she sets out to restore it before Christmas, rekindling love, tradition, and the sense of belonging she thought she’d left behind.
Saving Christmas, the Corporate Way — Amidu Ganiyu
Amidu Ganiyu created a fast-paced corporate Christmas drama, handing direction to Kemi Adetiba and casting Wale Ojo, Adesua Etomi, Kanaga Junior, and Toyin Abraham.
Wale Ojo would play a CEO on the brink of bankruptcy, while Adesua portrays his determined employee racing to save the company. Kanaga Junior takes on the role of a flashy young rival aiming to buy the business and prove his generation’s superiority, and Toyin Abraham adds comic relief as the devoted cook who’ll do anything to cheer up her boss.
Older Love, Younger Heart — Ojebiyi Fisayo
For Ojebiyi Fisayo, Christmas is about breaking convention. She pictured Jade Osiberu directing a tender romantic drama starring Osas Ighodaro, Adeoluwa Akintoba and Wale Ojo.
The film tells the story of a young man who falls in love with an older woman, challenging cultural expectations and his father’s disapproval. As the holidays unfold, love triumphs over judgement, offering a Christmas tale about courage, compassion, and the quiet strength of acceptance.
A Christmas for the People — Kenny Ajuwa
Kenny Ajuwa saw politics meet holiday cheer in a spirited festive satire directed by Jade Osiberu. Her imagined cast features Ruby Akubueze, Adesua Etomi, and Osas Ighodaro as three politicians-turned-friends taking on Osiberu herself as their party’s formidable leader.
The trio fights not for power but for the people, determined to deliver Nigeria’s most meaningful Christmas gift: hope. Blending humour, romance, and patriotism, the story journeys from Lagos to Abuja, celebrating resilience, unity, and the promise of a better tomorrow.
From tender romances to corporate chaos and political twists, each imagined film reflects how deeply Nollyphiles fans connect with stories of love, hope, and humanity. If Nollywood is ever looking for inspiration, look no further!
