It is refreshing to see something different than what we are used to. The story is solid and it does a lot which maybe is the undoing of the movie.
One of the recipes of great films is to “show, not tell”. Intentionally trying to weave several layers into the overall story was not done tastefully. The film tried to address too many things at once; infidelity, jealousy, envy, abuse, polygamy, family, sibling rivalry, and the insertion of several backstories, and in the end could not do justice to a lot of these.Show more
Many of the actors did really well; Mercy Johnson and Funke Akindele especially however, some were subpar and other were just plainly overacting (Kaiso and Keira).
Finally, we know movies are fictitious and therefore there needs to be suspension of disbelief to properly enjoy a film’s diegesis. However, when you push that too far and start to warp plausibility, it just shows the story is reaching.
I give it a 6 over 10. The message was communicated albeit very weakly; Family is everything.
It was really fun to watch, the last scenes were really emotional for me. Worth the hype
I’ll be honest; this was a good watch. Funny and very relatable. The story and the setting tied together nicely.
They lost me with the detours. I understand that they wanted to establish Lashile’s character, but they should have decided if they wanted the film to be about Yejide and her husband’s fight to get justice and reunite their family or about the family rivalry.Show more
Albeit, I enjoyed it. What I loved the most was how they used the bukas to show how deep their generational rivalries went.
