Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD) and Tanya Price share a chemistry that transcends the screen in ‘Revelations’. The Nigerian screen legend and the American actress-producer first discovered their creative connection on ‘Christmas in Miami’, and it has now blossomed into a full-fledged partnership on ‘Revelations’. More than a cross-cultural love story, the film reflects their collaboration, trust, and shared passion for telling meaningful, heartfelt stories.
Price recalls the moment their professional bond solidified: “We had such an amazing time filming and we just had such good chemistry and we knew that we’d want to work together again. We’d kind of joked about it, you know, like one day, one day. And then one day he called me and he said, ‘I would like to do my first US production. Will you be my partner?’ And the rest is history.”
‘Revelations’, directed by Martins Samuel, follows Kesiana Voke, a determined Nigerian immigrant who relocates to Utah in pursuit of his dream of becoming a surgical oncologist. Along the way, he meets Melissa, an American oncologist, and their shared dedication to saving lives grows into a tender, transformative romance. Together, they navigate love, ambition, and the complexities of blending cultures while building successful careers at Ogden Valley Medical.
For RMD, the story holds personal significance. “Because the immigrant story is usually, you know, criminalised, especially our people,” he explains. “I needed to tell a different kind of story about a Nigerian immigrant and what he’s about. And that’s what informed this.”
That authenticity is amplified by the partnership between him and Tanya Price. He praises her meticulous approach: “She is probably the most detailed person in this world you will ever meet. I’m telling you, she has OCD. If you give her anything to edit or if she watches anything, she will pick out every detail. We’ve been editing this film for God knows how long because Tanya will not let it go.”
Price’s dedication mirrors the intensity of their shared work: “It means everything,” she says of the premiere night. “Like all the blood, sweat and tears. Like, we’ve been working on this for two years and then we have tonight to show for it. So I hope everybody enjoys it.”
The film also offered a lighter side, with moments of fun on set. Price recalls RMD’s surprising ease with horse riding: “He was born to be a cowboy. I tell you, it was in his soul. He just needed that moment to release it. It was so fun watching him ride.”
Beyond their professional collaboration, ‘Revelations’ marks a personal milestone for RMD, as his son, Tega Mofe Damijo, makes his acting debut. “Proud father moment,” he says. “As an actor, hmm, here comes somebody that they might like. Because he takes his work very seriously. A little bit too serious, but hey. The good thing is that I’m proud of what he’s accomplished so far, what he’s put into this. He moved on his own, about eight months ago or nine months ago now, to LA. He’s going to make his own track.”
Price praises Tega’s natural talent: “You guys are going to be in for the performance of a lifetime. He was such a natural. You would never guess that this is his film debut. He brought the emotion; it’s amazing. Yeah, it’s definitely in the blood.”
At its core, ‘Revelations’ is a story about love, culture, and connection. Tanya Price sums it up simply: “It’s a story about love and just bringing two cultures together.” Alongside RMD and Tanya Price, the film features a talented ensemble cast including Chioma Chukwuka, Seun Akindele, Freddie George, Dior Adiele, Alex Boye, Nnamdi Kananga, and Albert Simpson, celebrating collaboration across continents.
For RMD, who balances the demands of acting and producing at 64, the reward is clear: “When you have the strength and you have the grace, go ahead and do it. I just hope that they love it.” With the palpable chemistry between him and Tanya Price, audiences most certainly will.
