As FilmOne Entertainment commemorates its 10th anniversary, the company is entering a new phase of growth under the leadership of Ladun Awobokun.
Transitioning from her role as General Manager, where she was instrumental in distributing top-grossing Nollywood films such as ‘A Tribe Called Judah,’ ‘Ajosepo,’ and ‘King of Thieves,’ Awobokun now steps into the role of Chief Content Officer.
This move signals a significant evolution in both her career and the company’s strategic direction.
In her new role, Awobokun will oversee the creative direction, operations, and content strategy for both FilmOne Limited’s distribution through FilmOne Entertainment and production at FilmOne Studios. “Companies evolve, and with growth come new opportunities. As FilmOne turns 10, it’s only natural that we explore new avenues,” she says.
One of the central challenges Awobokun faces as Chief Content Officer is balancing the needs of content creators with audience expectations. While acknowledging the complexity of this task, she remains optimistic. “It’s crucial that we drive our content production and partnerships to meet the demands of both producers and audiences,” she explains.
Her strategy includes expanding distribution channels, exploring new platforms, and deepening engagement with viewers. “We’re listening to what people want to see, and we’re committed to inspiring and connecting with them,” she adds.
Despite market uncertainties, Awobokun is confident that the demand for content will continue to grow. “I don’t foresee a situation where there are more platforms than content,” she notes. Her approach includes encouraging sustainable practices and forging international partnerships to strengthen the Nigerian film ecosystem.
The broader film industry is undergoing significant shifts, with streaming platforms gaining substantial traction and reshaping traditional distribution models. In Nigeria, the film industry is experiencing rapid growth, fuelled by both local demand and international interest.
This expansion has led to increased competition among studios and a heightened emphasis on content quality and innovation. FilmOne’s proactive stance on early film announcements and structured release strategies reflects a larger industry trend of maximising audience engagement and optimising release schedules.
Looking ahead, Ladun Awobokun is enthusiastic about the evolving content strategy at FilmOne, particularly the trend of announcing films well in advance. “We’re already seeing early announcements for December releases, and more studios are adopting structured approaches,” she observes.
This proactive strategy not only aligns with broader industry trends but also supports FilmOne’s commitment to delivering high-quality content and maintaining its leadership position.
Reflecting on her nearly seven-year journey at FilmOne and the future, Awobokun expresses gratitude for the opportunities her new role presents. “I’m blessed to be doing what I enjoy,” she says. “Our focus remains on delivering content that we’re proud of and that our audiences will appreciate.”
As FilmOne Studios embarks on this new chapter, Ladun Awobokun’s leadership is set to elevate the company’s content strategy, ensuring its continued success in the dynamic film industry.
