How Benneth Nwokike Depicted Women’s Infidelity Experiences in ‘Insecure’

In his inaugural venture into Nollywood, director Benneth Nwokike unveils ‘Insecure,’ an exploration of infidelity set to hit theatres nationwide on March 8, 2024. Nwokike’s primary goal with this female-driven narrative, starring Beverly Naya, Efa Iwara, and Venita Akpofure, was to ensure an authentic portrayal of women’s perspectives on the delicate subject of marital infidelity.

Acknowledging the limitations of his own experiences, Nwokike adopted a journalistic approach, conducting extensive interviews with a diverse group of women. Delving into the intricacies of infidelity in relationships and marriage, he sought insights from married individuals, those navigating infidelity, and even women who had yet to marry but faced betrayal in their relationships.

Speaking exclusively to Nollywire, Nwokike emphasised the challenges of narrating a story from a woman’s viewpoint as a man. His commitment to authenticity led him to probe deeply into the emotional nuances of infidelity, ensuring the film did justice to its female-centric theme.

“I have always been fascinated by human relationships, especially the dynamics of marriage and the consequences of infidelity. To me, the concepts of marriage, infidelity, and insecurity are the ingredients of a Nigerian psychological drama, and I wanted to explore this in the story,” Nwokike shared.

As the film releases nationwide, Nwokike guarantees a rollercoaster ride through the highs and lows of human emotion. The director prioritised authentic emotional portrayals, allowing characters to navigate a spectrum of feelings realistically.

Highlighting the meticulous handling of intense emotional scenes, Nwokike urged audiences to experience ‘Insecure’ in theatres, creating an atmosphere conducive to a genuine display of emotions. With a deliberate focus on telling a female-centric story, Nwokike assures viewers of a captivating cinematic experience, urging them to share the film with loved ones.

As anticipation builds for the theatrical release of ‘Insecure,’ Benneth Nwokike’s commitment to authenticity promises an engaging and thought-provoking exploration of relationships and infidelity on the big screen.
