Homevida, an initiative of the Public and Private Development Centre dedicated to empowering creativity and driving change in the film industry, is proud to announce its upcoming virtual masterclass workshop. This event is designed to equip the next generation of filmmakers with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the evolving film industry.
This is the third edition of the masterclass, continuing Homevida’s 12-year tradition of providing incentives for young filmmakers to produce movies that promote integrity values.
Over the past decade, Homevida has put a spotlight on issues such as gender equality, cyberbullying, the digital economy, and transparency, accountability, and good governance (TAGG), among others. The organization has produced 34 films, trained 500 scriptwriters, awarded over 10 million naira in cash prizes, and garnered 100,000 views on YouTube.
This year’s theme, “Access to Justice,” will gather filmmakers for a four-day virtual masterclass, offering an innovative and immersive experience. The focus will be on contemporary filmmaking techniques that leverage emerging digital technologies, ultimately showcasing ways films can be used to promote access to justice in Nigeria.
It is open to scriptwriters, producers, actors, directors, editors, videographers, and other aspiring filmmakers eager to make a difference through their work. Participants will explore advanced filmmaking techniques with a special focus on leveraging digital technologies. The program will cover the creation of short films, feature films, skits, and documentaries, all aimed at raising public awareness about key social issues.
Participants in the masterclass will be placed into groups and given tasks and assignments. They will be required to pitch movie ideas, from which two will be selected. The selected ideas will receive funding from Homevida to bring these films to life. Past fellows have gone on to produce notable films such as ‘Bus Ride’ and ‘Pandemic.’
Participants will have access to a roster of distinguished facilitators, who will guide them through their filmmaking journey with Homevida. Among these facilitators are AMVCA-nominated cinematographer and filmmaker Barnabas Emordi, known for his work on ‘A Tribe Called Judah,’ acclaimed director and producer Kayode Kasum, famously known for directing ‘Far from Home,’ writer and script editor Thecla Uzozie, and filmmaker Uyoyou Adia, among many others.
Homevida has consistently celebrated and supported talented filmmakers, with past winners including Jennifer Agunloye (Short Script Winner – 2016), Tomi Adesina (Short Script Winner – 2015), Tunde Apalowo (Short Script Winner – 2014), Oghomwen Adeyinka-Edward (Short Script Winner – 2013), and Chris Odeh (Short Script Winner – 2011).
This is a unique opportunity for young film enthusiasts to gain insights from industry experts, enhance their craft, and network with peers who share their passion for storytelling and social change.
