Funke Akindele’s ‘Behind the Scenes’ Opens to ₦200.8M: Biggest Debut of 2025

Funke Akindele has once again reaffirmed her status as Nigeria’s Queen of the Box Office, as her latest film, ‘Behind the Scenes’, opened to a staggering ₦200,875,791 at the Nigerian box office, marking the biggest opening weekend of 2025 so far.

The film recorded 34,548 admissions nationwide during its opening weekend and broke five opening-weekend records, an unprecedented feat that places it firmly at the top of this year’s theatrical releases. Cinemas across the country reported strong turnout as audiences showed up in large numbers, filling screens and driving early word-of-mouth buzz.

Produced by Funke Akindele and co-directed by Funke Akindele and Tunde Olaoye, ‘Behind the Scenes’ centres on Aderonke “Ronky-Fella” Faniran. A successful real estate mogul and mother of two, Ronky-Fella is celebrated for her generosity and selflessness. However, as those around her begin to take her kindness for granted, she gives relentlessly until she is left emotionally drained, forced to confront the personal cost of always being everything to everyone.

The film features an ensemble cast including Ibrahim Chatta, Uzor Arukwe, Dele Odule, Iyabo Ojo, Fausat Balogun, Scarlet Gomez, Destiny Etiko, Ini Dima-Okojie, Uche Montana Nwaefuna, and Tobi Bakre.

With its ₦200.8 million opening weekend, ‘Behind the Scenes’ not only sets a new box office benchmark for 2025 but also extends Funke Akindele’s remarkable run of commercially dominant releases. As its cinema run continues, the film is expected to maintain strong momentum in the weeks ahead.
