‘The Black Book 2: Old Scores’ has completed principal photography at Anakle Films, with Editi Effiong returning to the director’s chair.
The follow-up will continue the story world of the 2023 Netflix action thriller, which became one of the platform’s most-watched African titles following its release.
The development was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, which revealed that Nicky Weinstock, an executive producer on the Apple TV+ series ‘Severance’ and founder of Invention Studios, is attached as a producer on the project.
According to Anakle Films co-founder Mimi Bartels, the film wrapped production on December 5, 2025.
The producing team included Effiong, Bartels and Weinstock, with cinematographer Yinka Edward and costume designer Yolanda Okereke attached as co-producers.

Released in 2023, ‘The Black Book’ followed a grieving father (played by Richard Mofe-Damijo) confronting a corrupt system after his son’s death. The film’s scale, cinematography, and stunt choreography were central to its reception, with Edward previously noting the deliberate visual approach used to ground its action and emotional tone.
While full plot details remain under wraps, the sequel’s subtitle, Old Scores, points to a continuation of the political tensions and personal vendettas established in the original film’s narrative
The sequel marks Effiong’s first franchise continuation under the Anakle Films banner since the first film, a project Nollywire has previously covered extensively, from its demanding production timeline and most difficult shoot days to the execution of its most complex stunt sequences and its global Netflix rollout.
With Effiong maintaining creative continuity as director and reuniting with key collaborators from the first film, the project signals the next phase for one of the most internationally visible action titles to emerge from the contemporary Nollywood slate.
If Anakle Films reveals casting and production details in the coming months, The Black Book 2 could become one of the most closely watched Nollywood projects in development, alongside the likes of Baba Segi.
